Welcome to the
Wine Society of East Tennessee
The Wine Society of East Tennessee was
founded in 1977 by a small group of wine aficionados in
the Knoxville area. It has steadily grown over the
years and currently has an average membership of about
150 memberships, 10 restaurants, 6 wine and spirits
retail stores and 5 distributors. It is a
not-for-profit organization controlled by a Board of
Directors consisting of volunteer Wine Society members.
Our purpose is to provide our members
opportunities to enjoy fine wine, food and camaraderie
at reasonable prices while meeting with other
like-minded members. We normally conduct 12
events per year at our member restaurants which range in
size from casual boutique to larger private clubs.
The events are hosted by Board of Director members who
select the event themes and the wines, sometimes working
with a winery, distributor or retail store wine
specialists. They then meet with the restaurant
chefs to decide on the wine-food pairings for the event
menus. Most events are multi-course dinners, but
occasionally a tasting, comprised of wines paired with
hors d’oeuvres type food, may be scheduled. Prices
for these events always include tax and gratuities.
Each month our website (which you are
viewing) is updated with specific information (location,
date, time, price, menu and write-up) about the next
month’s Wine Society events. Our members are
alerted by monthly journal and email when the posting is
made.
Event reservations are accepted on a
first come – first served basis, and may be made by
either calling the Wine Society Voicemail
(865-896-3753), or by email using procedures located at
the bottom of the event write ups. Payment is made
by completing the event reservation form(s) and mailing,
with your check, to The Wine Society. PayPal may
also be used. Credit cards are accepted only
through PayPal. Due to differing restaurant
capacities, a maximum number of guests is set for each
event. If this number is reached, a waiting list
will be established.
Individual memberships cost $35 per
year. To join, complete the application form
linked to this website. Payment may be made by
check, made out to the Wine Society, or by PayPal.
Each individual will receive a membership card that lets
him/her bring one guest to the events at membership
rates. Additional guests may be invited at a small
additional cost. There may occasionally be other
benefits.
